Chlorella is a single-celled microalga which grows naturally in freshwater around the world. The free-floating aquatic plant is packed with chlorophyll, a green photosynthetic pigment used to generate energy from sunlight. Our chlorella powder boasts an excellent nutritional profile – high in fibre, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, omega-3 (ALA), vitamin B12 and E, as well as being a source of potassium and protein!
Despite having existed on earth for over 2 billion years, chlorella was first discovered in 1890 by Dutch microbiologist and botanist Dr Martinus Beijerinck. Chlorella’s nutritional profile was recognised as early as the 1900s – particularly for its protein content and medicinal properties, with Germany and Japan pioneering cultivation after World War II. It is now cultivated globally in warm, sunlight abundant climates at temperatures of 20-25°C.
Our organic chlorella is grown in freshwater ponds, free from pesticides and herbicides to ensure absolute purity. Isolated in the rural regions of Hainan and Jiangxi, our chlorella is not exposed to air or water pollution, growing far away from the industrial cities, and soaking up 100% natural sunlight. The premium quality is upheld further through the freshwater ponds which are meticulously filtered to prevent contamination.
