Our organic roasted coconut flakes are made by shaving coconut flesh into long, wide flakes before gentle roasting until they turn from white to a caramel colour. They offer a delicious nutty flavour that can be enjoyed as a snack or sprinkled over porridges and cakes.
Coconuts grow on the “cocos nucifera” tree, a tree belonging to the palm tree family growing in the tropical regions of the world including Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, and other regions along the Pacific Ocean. Requiring warm climates and a significant amount of sunlight, coconut trees colonize sandy coastlines – dependent on heavy rainfall and intolerant of cool temperatures. The tall palm trees can reach heights of 30m and bear up to 75 fruits per year, providing an integral resource for local communities.
Nicknamed “the tree of life”, coconut trees are abundant in their uses, offering food, fuel, medicine, cosmetics, and wood for timber and building materials. Coconut flesh is found within the brown, spherical outer shell, it is used in its natural form as fruit and can also be dehydrated to extract the coconut milk or dried and shaved to produce desiccated coconut. Not only do coconuts offer a delicious, refreshing flavour, but they are also typically high in fibre and associated with sustaining blood sugar levels, anti-inflammatory properties and boosting metabolism.
