Growing throughout the tropical regions of the world, coconuts not only offer a refreshing flavour, but are also known to be a great source of fibre.
Known as the ‘Tree of Life’ among locals, the coconut tree or “cocos nuficera” is a tall palm tree suited to warm temperatures, heavy rainfalls, and sandy soils. The palm can reach heights of 30m and has a variety of uses including providing food, medicine, cosmetics, timber and building materials. Not only are coconut palms highly resourceful, but fundamental to the history, culture, and societies of countries like Sri Lanka, providing employment in communities where it is otherwise scarce.
Coconuts are the fruit of the coconut tree; enclosed within a thick brown shell is the tasty coconut flesh and coconut water. They are high in natural saturated fats which help to increase healthy cholesterol (known as HDL) in the body and are also known to contain lipids, lauric acid, capris acid and caprylic acid which help support the healthy functioning of the immune system.
Our organic coconut flour is produced by milling dehydrated coconut flesh into a creamy, soft-textured powder. Coconut flour is fantastically economical to produce as it is simply making use of the coconut residue, which is solid once the coconut oil has been extracted. It’s delicious nutty taste makes it suitable for both sweet and savoury dishes including pastries, bread, cupcakes and canapes.
