Originating from Myanmar, our organic pineapple powder is freeze dried to preserve the naturally sweet and tangy taste. Pineapple powder is well suited to both sweet and savoury dishes, offering a nutritious tropical twist.
Indigenous to South America, pineapple is part of the bromeliaceae family growing naturally near rivers between southern Brazil and Paraguay. Pineapple is a tropical plant growing in temperate regions. While it can be resilient to periods of rainfall, pineapple cannot withstand cold temperatures as exposure results in slow growth and the taste to become more acidic. Unripe pineapple can be poisonous whereas the ripe fruit has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years; associated with anti-inflammatory benefits and with easing digestion.
Once used as symbol of wealth, pineapple has a history spanning over centuries. Before commercial growth, Europeans saw pineapple as synonymous with luxury – using it as decoration rather than as an edible sweet fruit. In the Caribbean, pineapples were used to evoke friendship and hospitality, and they even became the symbol of Hawaii after Hawaiians became the primary producer in the 20th century. Today, foods containing pineapple are associated with Hawaii such as the Hawaiian pineapple pizza.
