Also known as Ispaghula, psyllium husks are the white outer coating to the Plantago Ovata seeds and are associated with a wide array of benefits including alleviating constipation, lowering cholesterol, and supporting the digestive system.
Originating in India, psyllium husks have been used for centuries in the traditional Indian Ayurvedic medical system largely for their digestive health benefits. Today, psyllium is cultivated throughout Asia including India, Pakistan, and Iran and the process involves harvesting the seeds, allowing them to dry before the extraction and removal of the husks.
Our organic psyllium husks are harvested from Plantago Ovata plants in India and are a great source of dietary fibre. Psyllium husks contain soluble fibre meaning they pass through the small intestine without being absorbed preventing constipation and supporting digestion. Added to this, psyllium is widely believed to lower LDL cholesterol, support cardiovascular health and lower blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetics.
Add our organic psyllium husk to water or fruit juice and enjoy as a drink or mix into a superfood smoothie. Alternatively, add to cereals, granola or baked goods to boost the dietary fibre content.
